The Malaysian English Language Teaching Association (MELTA), registration number PPM-001-10-27101959, respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect your personal data in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA). It applies to personal data we collect through this website, our membership application form, payments made to MELTA, and your communications with us.

1. Personal data we collect

• Identity and contact details: name, email address, telephone number and postal address.
• Eligibility details: nationality or residency status and identification details where required to verify membership eligibility.
• Professional details: institution or employer, position, and involvement in English language education.
• Organisation details: for Institutional and Corporate members, organisation details and the names and contact details of nominated personnel.
• Payment records: amount, date, transaction reference and payment method type. Card details are collected and processed by our payment gateway provider, not by MELTA.
• Correspondence: messages you send us and our replies.

2. How we collect it

We collect personal data directly from you when you complete our membership application form, make a payment, or contact us. We also receive transaction confirmations from our payment gateway provider.

3. Why we use it

• To process and verify membership applications and maintain our register of members.
• To issue payment confirmations and receipts.
• To communicate with members about the Association's activities, general meetings, events and publications.
• To respond to your enquiries.
• To meet our obligations as a society registered under Malaysian law and to comply with legal requirements.

4. Obligatory and voluntary information

Fields marked as required in our forms are obligatory. If you do not provide them, we may be unable to process your application or payment. Other information is voluntary.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. We may disclose it to:

• Curlec (Razorpay Curlec), our payment gateway provider, to process payments;
• service providers that host our website, forms and email, solely to provide those services to us;
• MELTA office bearers and committee members, for membership administration; and
• government authorities, including the Registry of Societies Malaysia, where required by law.

6. Transfer outside Malaysia

Some of our service providers store data on servers located outside Malaysia. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your personal data receives a level of protection consistent with the PDPA.

7. Security

We take reasonable practical steps to protect your personal data from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. Payments are processed on the secure systems of our payment gateway provider.

8. Retention

We keep personal data for as long as you remain a member and thereafter for as long as needed for the purposes above, including record-keeping required by law. Data no longer required is securely deleted or destroyed.

9. Your rights

Subject to the PDPA, you may:

• request access to the personal data we hold about you;
• request correction of personal data that is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date;
• withdraw your consent to, or ask us to limit, the processing of your personal data; and
• ask us to stop sending you communications about our activities.

Please send requests in writing to admin@melta.my. Withdrawing consent may affect our ability to maintain your membership.

10. Cookies

This website may use cookies and server logs needed for it to function and to keep it secure. You can disable cookies in your browser settings; some parts of the website may then not work as intended.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The version published on this page, with its "Last updated" date, applies.
